A light on Spokane's South Hill

How we got here

Anyone who has ever driven through Spokane has caught the magnificent St. John's Cathedral out of the corner of their eye. It's striking structure looks down upon Spokane's cityscape from the lower South Hill. Yet likely only a small percentage of the city has ever stopped to take in the whole experience, or more importantly, enter the building.

This is the problem the committee at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist (as it is formally known) was looking to solve when they came to Averson. The goal was to craft a brand that highlighted the traditional, Gothic style of the architectural landmark, yet also offer an inviting, modernized spin. While known as "the light on the hill" in Spokane, the primary logo exhibits the signature rose window, as viewed from inside the building, rather than outside, reminding its neighbors that St. John's is a community where all are welcome.
