The Story

It sounds crazy…

Recruiting your best friends to become your coworkers? But it didn’t happen overnight, nor was it even a conceivable idea we had when we met at age 19. Yes, let’s start there - 19 years old, bright, young college students, simply finding ourselves and our way in the world when we found each other by some sort of providence, or chance, depending on how you look at it. 


By our senior year, we were all living under the same roof: sharing meals and dreaming about what we would  do post-graduation with our trusty liberal arts degree. But never once did we dream that three of us would someday work together, let alone in our own entrepreneurial pursuit.

We began our careers. We navigated the shifting social landscapes, moved to different cities, but stayed in touch.  If we were to show you a slideshow of our 20s, you’d see us in frames at each other’s weddings, housemate reunions, and less visibly, too many phone calls and text messages to count.

Simultaneously, the three of us had all launched our own independent business endeavor.  Amanda in photography and videography, Sena in communications and marketing, and Brooke founded a small design company in 2017 that she called Averson Design. 

The best secret we can share about owning a small business is to find people who are on a similar path and hold on tight. Since community is important to each of us, it only felt right to integrate that into our professional lives too. The questions, advice, stories, and frustrations we have shared over the years allowed us to be able to share openly with each other when the inklings of what would become “Averson Creative” started to rise to the surface of conversation.

The overwhelming majority of friendships are not meant to turn into businesses, but for our business, our friendship set an irreplaceable foundation.

In 2020, we took a leap of faith in joining forces and becoming the business we are today: a full-service creative studio committed to authentically capturing your brand through storytelling, media, and design.

It’s easy to interpret our story as romantic or idyllic, and in so many ways we are grateful for the opportune crossing of our paths. As we’ve grown as a business, we’ve leaned on our roots and our friendship, and we’ve also been stretched to explore inevitably new territory that comes with working a 9-5 with close pals. For as much as we try, the roles of “friend” and “coworker” are never fully mutually exclusive and that comes with its own challenges.

One of the things you’ll hear us say over and over again is “every brand has a story” and it’s true: who you are, how you formed, and why you do what you do matters. And this is our story: one founded in deep friendship, trust, and bottles of red wine.
