The Latest Squarespace Updates

One of the reasons we love Squarespace as a web platform for our clients is their commitment to progress. The company is always working hard to improve their product and often responds to community requests and feedback. The benefit of this is that your site can grow along with you! We probably don’t need to tell you the downside though...

Have you ever logged into your website after weeks of procrastination only to find that the old way of doing things now looks different? This can become added stress on what already feels like a stressful task - we get it! That’s why we want to outline a few of Squarespace’s most recent updates and tell you exactly what you need to know (and what you don’t) to maximize your site’s potential and hopefully keep the stress at a minimum.

Update #1 | Member Areas

We are kicking off the list with the biggest update since Squarespace 7.1 came to be! Squarespace launched member areas at the end of 2020 as a way for clients to monetize their brand with exclusive content through online classes, blogs, videos, etc. Adding this new feature to your existing website would allow you to:

  • Create exclusive content.
Any pages that you add to a member area will be gated, and only invited clients/customers  who create an account and sign up for a membership to that area can see the content. Any page you create will be automatically protected in your Squarespace settings, so there’s no need to manage passwords or maintain code snippets.

  • Customize member homepages.
Each member area has its own homepage where you can welcome your members and build links to special  content for them. As with most Squarespace pages, you have the freedom to get creative with this landing page, as it’s the first thing the community sees when they log into their member area.

  • Manage Members.
When a visitor signs up for a membership, a member profile is created which you can view and manage in the Profiles panel. This is a powerful way to see all your members in a single place, find key information like email address and total money spent, and organize members with notes and tags.

This might be a good fit for you if:

  • You’ve been looking to add passive income into your business.

  • You prefer “all-in-one” solutions when possible. You don’t want to deal with an entirely new platform.

  • An email list just isn’t cutting it anymore. You are looking to cultivate a community but need a secure, simple place to host group events, share resources, and keep members in the loop.

  • You need a “members only” resource page that is free, but exclusive to existing clients or groups.

Update #2 | Product Settings Interface

If you are an e-commerce site owner, you may have noticed a new interface for products. No stress, we will show you how to find all of the content you need in this video below, as well as a comparison from the old editor.

This is important for you if:

  • You have a store page on your website!

Update #3 | Blog Settings

As with  products, blogs look different now too! We weren’t sure how we felt about this change at first, but once you find the content you need it’s just as easy. Note: This is only a change that is being implemented in 7.1 sites, so if you have a website set up in version 7.0 you won’t need to worry about this. Here’s a video on how to navigate the new setup:

This is important for you if:

  • You have a blog on your website AND have switched from version 7.0 to 7.1 in Squarespace

Update #4 | Squarespace App

Are you someone that prefers to do work on the go and always forgets to make simple web tweaks when you finally sit down at your desktop? Now you can access full analytics and edit product and store pages directly from the Squarespace App. What used to require an entirely separate app is now all in one place. This is especially great for e-commerce site owners, giving you more control over your business while on the go.

This is important for you if:

  • You have a store page on your website

  • You prefer to do work on your phone or ipad

  • You need to make store or product tweaks frequently and easily

  • You dig analytics and data :)

Whether reading these updates gets you excited, or you are simply struggling to stay on top of your website game, we are here for you! Don’t hesitate to reach out.
