How to post your brand video to Instagram

Perhaps you’ve invested money and effort into good brand video and you want your audience to actually engage with it. Yes! That’s a good desire.  But let’s address the elephant in the room:

How do you actually post your video?

This might seem like a simple task but you’d be surprised how many times we’ve received emails from anxious clients with more than a few question marks about how the heck they can get their pretty new brand media posted on Instagram. That is,  without cutting off part of the video or ending up with a blurry (or even worse… blank!) cover video, which never looks good on a curated feed.

Here are a few tips walking you through the steps of making that video sparkle on Instagram:

HOW TO POST A VIDEO ON AN INSTAGRAM FEED

  • 1. Download your video in the highest resolution provided to you

  • 2. Open the Instagram app and click the + button at the bottom of your screen to prepare your post

  • 3. Locate your media and select it

  • 4. Make sure that you click the small icon of two arrow in the bottom left of the video so that your video will not be auto-cropped!

  • 5. Now click the arrow in the top right corner to get to the next steps

  • 6. Make sure that the small sound bell icon above the video display is ON if you have speaking or music in the video.

  • 7. Instagrams feed only allows 60 seconds of video, so if you are hoping to upload a specific 60 seconds from a longer video select “TRIM” at the bottom of your screen and choose the section of video that you want to play.

  • 7. Most importantly!! Before finalizing your post click on “COVER” in the bottom right of your phone screen and then scrub through the video with the square on the video timeline to pick the frame from the video that you want to be displayed on your feed. Skipping this step means that IG will auto-choose a frame from the video for the main feed display and often times this leaves you with a blurry, unflattering or completely blank screen. It’s happened to me, and it’s the worst!
